Condemning Murder of Martyr Ali Hussain Ni'ma

Waad condemns murder of martyr Ali Hussain Ni'ma (17 years old), who was killed with birdshot during a pro-democracy protest in the Bahraini village Sadad. The date of the murder, 29 September 2012, also marks the day the Bahraini government candidate was elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) advisory committee, flagrantly reflecting the recklessness and size of human rights violations practiced by the government of Bahrain, and providing a clear indication on the indifference shown by the government after the adoption of the Human Rights Council Report.

Waad states that the security approach, supported by the use of excessive force, reflects the reality of the Regime’s allegations of reform and its continued rejection of the other opinion, as well as its exclusivity in taking crucial decisions regarding the present and future of our country.

Accordingly, Waad calls on the international community to shoulder its moral responsibilities towards the killings and brutalities practiced against the Bahraini people, and appropriately follow up on the implementation of the official Bahraini agencies’ International commitments, the adopted Geneva commitments as well as the BICI report recommendations.

Furthermore, Waad underlined the importance of forming a neutral international commission of inquiry from international human rights organizations, headed by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which responsibility would be to monitor the implementation of the Regime’s obligations and commitments.

In addition, Waad stresses on the people’s right to peaceful protests confirmed by international conventions and treaties ratified by the Government of Bahrain, and demands the Regime to stop the killings and to hold accountable all those responsible for the murder, torture and human right violations since 14 February 2011 to date.

In light of these alarming updates, Waad calls the Regime to avoid unfruitful and damaging political solutions, and muster the courage to enter a true political dialogue as the only way to resolve the crisis ravaging the country.
