waad's Political Office Statement Corroborating the Peacefulness of the Movement & Rejecting Calls for Violence

National Democratic Action Society "Waad" has closely observed the cowardly attack on Mr. Nabeel Rajab, human rights activist and Chairman of Bahrain Center for Human Rights, by security forces in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, despite the false information issued about the attack. This act has been considered cowardly and must be condemned and stopped. Moreover the names of those who committed the act should be revealed and brought to justice as the incident is not the first of its kind, as was preceded by several attacks on Mr. Rajab and his home.

Waad said that the attack reflects security forces’ insistence to continue practicing collective punishment against citizens in various areas. It stressed that the state of repression and escalation cannot resolve the persistent political-constitutional crisis that has been plaguing the country for more than ten years, and which escalated in 14 February 2011.

Waad confirmed the need for an immediate intervention by the political leadership in order to stop the deterioration resulting from security solutions. It stressed the need to put an end to the suffering by various areas subject to collective punishment, by establishing political and security détente to overcome the political and sectarian tension that is being fueled by some extremists in mosques.

Waad demanded the stateto undertake its constitutional and legal responsibilities by protecting the safety and lives of citizens and residents, including human rights activists and politicians, through the withdrawal of security forces deployed in different areas of Bahrain.
